Though Fire Emblem: Engage throws much of this simplicity to the wayside with its Emblem Ring mechanics, Alear is nonetheless a powerful force in the early game and a fine introduction to the gameplay of Engage. Other than some unique gimmicks with their promoted class and the Emblem Rings, Alear plays much the same as their predecessors. While there are some exceptions, most are speedy sword-wielders with decent strength and defense. Fire Emblem's protagonist's stats and gameplay tend to utilize the same basic formula.
